-----

24 Dec 1831: Mark Dent of St Francois Co MO wrote letter to son Lewis in "Rocky Mount, Franklin County, Virginia" where Lewis had recently journeyed; Mark asked Lewis "to call as you return [to MO] on Uncle John Dent, and tell the old man if he intends to move, if it would be agreeable to his notion, I would be very glad to see him and his family in this country." «published in Salem Missouri Post 22 Feb 1928»

[Note: the letter writer is Mark Winnett Dent {Walter3,John2,John1}. The letter indicates that Mark's father (Walter Dent Sr) had a brother John who was still alive in 1831. John M. Dent fits quite nicely as the "Uncle John Dent" mentioned in the letter on several points:]

John lived in the same neighborhood as Walter Sr in Frkln Co VA 1790-1797 before moving on to Grngr Co TN

As a resident of Grngr Co up through at least 1830, John would have been living right along the route Lewis would have likely taken from Frkln Co VA to St Francois Co MO

John was aged about 68 years old, fitting the "old man" description

By 1832 John moved from Grngr Co to Calloway Co KY, which correlates with the intention to move mentioned in the letter
