Abt 1832, William Carroll Allen was born. No birth record has been found. We don't know who his parents are, only that his father was born in South Carolina, and his mother was born in Tennessee (from the 1880 census).
1850 Census Living in Bradley County, Tennessee, Susan Carson, age 17, living with her parents. We haven't been able to positively identify William Carroll Allen in the 1850 Census. Here is a study showing possible matches to William in 1850 Census.
About 1852, [William] Carroll Allen married Susan Carson No record of the marriage has been found, however, there are plenty of records in Bradley County, Tennessee, showing that they were husband and wife.

Abt 1863 Hiram Douglas Allen was born. 1863, son Hiram Douglas Allen was born in Tennessee.
Abt 1863-1864, Susan Carson Allen died. William's first wife dies. We have no firm record of exactly when or where she dies. The time is somewhere between the birth of her last child, and when William joins the army.
William moves from Bradley County, Tennessee, to Illinois. We are not sure of when this move took place, and whether it was before or after the death of Susan.
1865 William C. Allen Military records. Page 1, Page 2, Page 3 After Susan's death, William C. joined the Union army April 6, 1865. He was discharged on July 13, 1865. These are his cival war military records.
1866 List of heirs of Martha Carson Martha Carson was the mother of Susan Carson, and grandmother to the Allen children. When she died, this court record was left listing all of her heirs.
1866 Marriage Certificate of William C. Allen and Almira J. Jackson After his discharge from the Army, William married Almira J. Jackson, nee Roberts, in Oquawka, Henderson County, Illinois. She had previously been married to Andrew Jackson. He died of an illness while serving in the military during the civil war. She had no children by her first marriage.
1870 Agnes Lavilla Allen was born. 20 Feb 1870, daughter Agnes Lavilla Allen was born in Iowa.

Here we see William's new wife, Almira, raising three of Susan's four children.  The census taker got confused and combined the last two children, Hiram, who should have been around age 7, and Agnes, the new baby.

Catharine [Roberts] LaRue was the sister of Almira [Roberts] Allen, wife of William Carroll Allen.  Hiram Allen, who was the son of William Carroll Allen and Susan Carson, is living with and being raised by Almira's sister, Catharine.
1880 Census of Audubon County, Iowa Living in Hamlin Township, Audubon County Iowa were:

Almira Allen, age 43,
Lincoln Allen, age 19,
Lovilla Allen, age 9,
Elmer Allen, age 7,
Estella Allen, age 3.

William was born in Tennessee.  His father was born in South Carolina, and his mother was born in Tennessee. Almira was born in Indiana.  Lincoln and his parents were born in Tennessee.  The last three children were born in Iowa.  Hiram was living in Illinois with Almira's sister and her husband William LaRue.  John Millard Allen married in 1874, and Mary Elizabeth Allen married in 1876.  Both are found living with their families in the 1880 census.

Catharine [Roberts] LaRue was the sister of Almira [Roberts] Allen, wife of William Carroll Allen.  Hiram [Allen] LaRue, who was the son of William Carroll Allen and Susan Carson, is shown with the last name LaRue.

After the death of William C. Allen, a tract of land inherited by William's children from his marriage to Susan Carson was deeded to Almira Allen (their step-mother).
1887 Marriage of Almira Allen to Wesley Luccock 2 Jun 1887, William's widow remarried. It was her third marriage.
1891 Guardianship papers for the Allen Children Guardianship papers were filed in 1891 to prove that Almira Carson was the guardian of her own children after the death of William.

Lincoln Collen Carson was her brother. This book is a history of the Carson family, including their ancestry and the descendents of Lincoln.
